1. "H" Shared Drive : If
you log into (authenticate) your office Windows computer, you have
access to the "H" shared drive. When you log in, you see
a "Log
On to Windows"
screen -- if you hit the Options button you'll see the domains available.
After logging in, you'll have access to the "H" drive to
store your files. No matter where you go on campus, you'll have access
to this drive & the
files you put there, including the classrooms.
If you are not authenticating now, but would like to use this shared
drive, call the Computer Center's Help Desk (7-6420) to set
you up to log in to a domain. |
2. FTP: For easy access to your class
files in a multimedia classroom, use FTP to move your files. Here's
how to transfer your files from any network connection (office, home).
-
Connect to the campus network (your office is probably
wired directly with Ethernet; you'll need a modem to connect from
home)
-
Windows users: Use the "WS-FTP" application
that comes with BUICK
- Macintosh users: Use the "Fetch" application that comes
with the Internet Suite
-
Call Jeff Donahue at 777-4750 for the IP address,
login ID and password for your class
- Create a subdirectory (folder) for your class ... I *urge* you
to name it with your course number, e.g. MATH111
- Upload your files into that subdirectory
To use your files in a multimedia classroom:
Windows Users:
- Double click on "My Computer"
- Your files will be on drive S (for Shared)
- Find your file and double click on it
- If it was created with an application provided in the multimedia
classrooms, such as PowerPoint or MS Word, the file will automatically
open
Macintosh Users:
- Launch "Fetch" from the Internet Suite
- Connect to the server the same way you did to upload your files
(you'll need the IP address, username & password again)
- Download your files
- If it was created with an application provided in the multimedia
classrooms, such as PowerPoint or MS Word, the file will automatically
open
How students can view your files:
-
Students must use computers in one of the PODS on campus. They
cannot access these files from their dorm rooms or off campus.
-
PC Users: Double click on "My Computer"
-
Choose drive S (for Shared)
- Open the folder created for your class
